Insulating Line Hose & Equipment

W. H. Salisbury & Co. introduced Line Hose to the electrical utility market in 1923. It quickly proved itself to be the most convenient device for protecting linemen from accidental contact with energized lines. Today, Line Hose and Covers are regarded as an indispensable part of all linesmen's equipment. With over seventy years of research and development on Linesmen's Protective Equipment, SALISBURY can offer the most complete line of protection, up to 34.5 kV, in the industry.

By completely surrounding the conductor with a voltage-resisting flexible rubber, electrical insulation is provided. The self-locking lip prevents the Line Hose from being accidentally dislodged. Being flexible, it will readily follow the bends of taps, jumpers or leads without gapping open to expose the conductor. Light weight construction makes it easily transported, raised and handled aloft. It can be installed on the conductor from either below or above and is easily removed. All styles of Line Hose are available in 3', 4 1/2' and 6' lengths. Special lengths available upon request.

All styles of Line Hose, Covers and Connectors are equipped with SALISBURY's RIB GRIP construction. Ribs on the Line Hose engage within the extending arms of Insulator Covers, or within the adapter end of an adjoining Connector End Type Line Hose. This construction prevents slipping, yet permits an easy separation when the job is complete. The Hose stays in position and sag conditions, pole top vibration or brushing against the Hose will not cause it to creep. When it is necessary to join two or more lengths of hose, the Connector End Type is used and the pieces can be applied and drawn back to the pole without becoming separated.

All Salisbury Covers and Protective Equipment are designed for personal protection only. They are not to be used for mechanical protection.

RIB GRIP Locking System

Sectional view of typical Insulator Cover showing arrangement of ribs. Note ribs are especially engineered to grip the serrations on its corresponding Line Hose regardless of the angle at which the Hose extends.

A row of 20 serrations is formed on both sides of the outer surface of Connector End Line Hose to grip snugly within the large arm of Insulator Covers.

Saw tooth serrations are positioned on ends of Line hose with one side at an angle for easy insertion and one side vertical to resist withdrawal. The notched distance of 8 inches is more than is needed but allows an end to be cropped if damaged through wear.

The inside surface of Type B and D Connector End Line Hose contains a total of 21 flexible rubber ribs. This number is sufficient to tightly grasp and hold adjoining lengths of Hose.

The connector formed at one end receives and overlaps the end of an adjoining Hose for a distance of 6 1/2 inches.

"Straight" type is used for covering taps, jumpers and leads or positions where it is expected to connect with only the small arm of an Insulator Cover or as an extension to an adjoining length of Connector End Type Hose.
